MBN MÉTÉO+

Welcome to the MBN MÉTÉO+ app. Protecting your privacy and personal data is our utmost priority. This privacy policy transparently explains what data is processed, why, and how it is protected under GDPR.

1. Data We Collect (Minimalism & Privacy by Design) MBN MÉTÉO+ is engineered following the Privacy by Design principle. We do not create identifiable user accounts (no name, no mandatory email, no password).

We strictly collect:

  • Geographic Location Data (GPS): When using the application, we request access to your real-time position (while the app is active) to center the weather map on your position, provide localized forecasts, and allow you to submit a weather report in your area to participate in the community. The app remains fully usable even without location enabled (weather reports are then displayed within a default 300 km radius around the city of Caen, and you can freely search any locality and browse the map).
  • Collaborative Reporting Data: When you report a weather event (rain, snow, flood, fire, etc.) on the map, we record the GPS coordinates of this event, the reporting time, and the event type. This report is completely anonymous. As a privacy protection measure (Privacy by Design), the position displayed to other users is never your exact location: it is automatically rounded to the center of a 1.3 km × 1.3 km grid cell (aligned with the resolution of Météo-France's AROME weather model). It is therefore technically impossible for another user to deduce your precise location from a report.
  • Technical & Notification Data (FCM): Anonymized device identifiers (Firebase Cloud Messaging - FCM tokens) for sending Push notifications (weather alerts), as well as possible crash reports to improve application stability. These FCM tokens are automatically and permanently deleted from our servers as soon as you disable weather alerts in the app settings or revoke permissions on your device.

2. How We Use Data The collected data is used exclusively to provide the expected weather service:

  • Location: It is used to center the map on your position, resolve your locality name in the weather search via your device's native geocoding service (Apple / Google), provide accurate local weather forecasts, and allow you to submit a weather report. The application can be used freely without active location.
  • Reports: They are publicly displayed on the map to inform fellow community members. When location is enabled, you receive community reports within a 300 km radius around your position. When location is not enabled, you receive reports within a default 300 km radius around the city of Caen. These reports are ephemeral and automatically disappear after a few hours.
  • Notifications (Push): They are used to alert you of a significant weather phenomenon nearby. Enabling these localized alerts requires syncing your last known location to our servers (see section 4).

3. Data Sharing, Mapping & Subprocessors We do not sell, rent, or share any of your location or usage data to data brokers or for external advertising targeting.

Your data is only processed or stored anonymously on secure third-party infrastructures necessary for the application to function:

  • OpenFreeMap: Open, secure, and privacy-respecting vector map tile provider (OpenStreetMap), with zero advertising cookies or individual profiling.
  • Supabase: Hosting our secure cloud database (to store weather reports and alert coordinates anonymously).
  • Google (Firebase / Google Play): For sending emergency weather push notifications and tracking technical application crashes.
  • Google AdMob & UMP Consent: The application serves ads via Google AdMob to finance server hosting and meteorological infrastructure. User consent in the EU is gathered via certified Google UMP (TCF v2.2), customizable or revocable at any time in the app settings.

4. Data Retention and Location Data

  • Participatory Reports: They are ephemeral. A "decay" algorithm (TTL) makes them obsolete and they are purged from the database after a few hours depending on the event type (for example, rain disappears faster than a flooded road).
  • Location (Targeted Alerts) & FCM Tokens: In order to send you relevant weather alerts (via Firebase Cloud Messaging), the application requests your explicit consent to synchronize your last known GPS coordinates to our servers (Supabase). We do not keep any history of your movements. Only the very last location (as a GPS point), tied to a fully anonymous device identifier, is stored; it is overwritten with every new application sync. If you decline or disable this option, FCM tokens and associated GPS coordinates are immediately and permanently purged from our database.

5. Your Rights (GDPR) In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR - Regulation (EU) 2016/679), you have the right to access, rectify, delete, restrict, and object to the processing of your data. Because the application operates anonymously and without an account, disabling features in the app or revoking permissions in your phone settings immediately terminates all data processing. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority (CNIL - cnil.fr).

6. Website Usage (Zero Cookie Policy) This website (meteonormandie.fr) is a purely static website. It uses zero cookies (no technical, analytics, or advertising cookies) and collects zero personal data during your visit. No tracking or fingerprinting technologies are implemented.
